Mateusz: W jaki sposób dowiedziałeś się o wrestlingu?

Izyk: Nie pamiętam jak, ale po raz pierwszy o wrestlingu dowiedziałem się, kiedy miałem 9 lub 10 lat. Na początku lat osiemdziesiątych zacząłem oglądać transmisje World Wrestling Federation (WWF), a także The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), The American Wrestling Association (AWA) oraz World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW).

Mateusz: Jakie są twoje pierwsze wspomnienia związane z wrestlingiem?

Izyk: Moje pierwsze wspomnienie z wrestlingiem wiąże się z WWF Broadcast, które oglądałem w każdą sobotę, gdy byłem dzieckiem. Roddy Piper, The Macho Man, Paul Orndorff, interesowałem się tymi facetami. Każdym, kto walczyłby z Hulkiem Hoganem, gdyż nie byłem jego fanem. Wolałem „Heelów”, a z biegiem czasu doceniłem Hogana.

Mateusz: W przeszłości pracowałeś jako sędzia w Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. Jak wspominasz ten okres?

Izyk: Wciąż pracuję w Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, aktualnie mamy przerwę z powodu obecnej sytuacji na świecie. Mamy się dobrze, planujemy wznowić nagrania telewizyjne w czerwcu, ale bez udziału publiczności. Uwielbiam być częścią ekipy CWFH, jestem z nimi od 13 sierpnia 2017 roku i wiele nauczyłem się o występach w telewizji. Mateusz: Thank you for interview, Izyk. How are you?

Izyk: I’m doing well. Thank you for the opportunity to connect with your community. I am flattered to be asked to participate.

Mateusz: For those who don’t know you how would you describe yourself?

Izyk: Ha ha… I’m pretty sure a lot of people don’t know me, but first and foremost, I am a father, that’s my greatest responsibility. I’m just an average man who is a wrestling fan. I love cinema, and amusement parks, comic books, PS4, and I love learning about the world we live in, and try to be the best person I can be to contribute. And of course, I’m a professional wrestling referee working in California, Arizona, and Nevada, in the United States.

Mateusz: How did you find out about wrestling in USA?

Izyk: I don’t recall how I first came to discover wrestling, but I was probably 9 or 10 years old. It was in the early 1980’s that I started watching, and I primarily watched World Wrestling Federation (WWF) broadcasts, but I would also watch The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), The American Wrestling Association (AWA), and World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW).

Mateusz: What is your first memory about pro wrestling?

Izyk: My first memory of wrestling would be the WWF broadcasts I would watch on Saturdays as a kid. Roddy Piper, The Macho Man, Paul Orndorff were the guys I was really into. Anybody who would fight Hulk Hogan, as I wasn’t really a fan of Hogan growing up. I preferred the “Heels”. Although I came to appreciate Hogan much later on.

Mateusz: What referee are you? Heel, face, tweener? What gives you the greatest pleasure from working in the ring?

Izyk: I guess if we’re going to define referees by those terms, I would say that I’m babyface. I always receive a really positive reaction from fans at the shows I work. The “pops” can get pretty loud. I’m very humbled and appreciative. My greatest pleasure in the ring comes from working hard, and doing my best to represent my wrestling school well.

Mateusz: In the past you work referee in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. How do you remember this period in your life?

Izyk: I still work with Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, we’re just on a hiatus because of all that’s going on. We got the OK to resume television tapings again starting in June, but with no audience. I enjoy being a part of the crew at CWFH very much, I’ve been with them since 13 August 2017, and have learned a lot about performing on television in that time. I don’t know if the FITE tv app is available where you’re from, but the CWFH shows are available to view using that app.

Mateusz: Where did your passion for wrestling come from? Apparently, you didn’t miss any wrestling events Santiago Bros Wrestling at that time.

Izyk: My passion for wrestling came from being a fan. Getting the opportunity to work in the ring has caused it to grow stronger. I trained at the Santino Bros (not Santiago) Wrestling Academy, and I am a part of the shows they promote as well. It is the greatest pro wrestling school in Southern California, I would even say the greatest in the entire United States.I highly recommend watching their YouTube channel.

Mateusz: You’ve worked at Ground Zero, Rogue Wrestling and United Wrestling Network Events, among others, where you met many wrestlers. Can you tell something about these people? What did your work for these companies look like? Has anyone contacted you?

Izyk: The United Wrestling Network produces the Championship Wrestling From Hollywood TV show, it’s the same company. Ground Zero is a wrestling promotion in San Diego California, and Rogue Wrestling is in Los Angeles. I have been very fortunate to work with some fantastic talent at these companies. Amazing local talent, talent that now works for WWE, AEW, Impact Wrestling, ROH etc, as well as big name talent who no longer work for these promotions. Everyone I’ve met has been professional, and easy to get along with. I am truly grateful for my experiences with them all. My work for these companies consists of me being able to keep up with the fast pace of a match, making sure to keep an eye out for the wrestlers safety. I’m there to communicate with them in case of an emergency that might arise. It’s a very physical task, and I’m relied on to be on my game to do what’s needed at any given moment. I’m not exactly sure what you mean regarding whether someone has contacted me. If you mean have I been contacted to work for a bigger company, not exactly. I have worked with Impact Wrestling in 2018, and 2019. I worked as security for a television taping, as well as being part of filming a segment with some of the female talent. I’ve also worked in a dark match at a television taping for them.

Mateusz: You’ve worked with Maverick Wrestling, and Bumps and Wrestling. Why did you have such good contact with the wrestling industry? How did this happen?

Izyk: Yes, I’ve worked with Maverick Wrestling, and Bumps and Brewses as well. These are 2 additional promotions in Los Angeles California, and I’ve been happy to have the opportunities that I’ve had with them. I work hard, I am a professional, I have the right attitude and work ethic. I believe these are the reasons I’m able to make the good contacts that I have in this business. I’m also good friends with the promoter of Bumps and Brewses, which is a promotion that runs their shows at Breweries in the Los Angeles area. Fans love beer, and fans love Wrestling. They seem to work well together, and it’s always a great time being at these shows.

Mateusz: In summary, In the past you are also a judge for many independent wrestling federations. The question is, how could one man doe so many amazing things? Have you tried all the time to go ahead and not give up anyway?

Izyk: Ha ha… I’m an amazing man, which makes it possible to do such amazing things! Seriously though, I work hard, I want to be the best, and I believe that promoters, fans, and wrestlers can see that. I have been offered lots of opportunities because of my hard work. I have pushed myself to be a performer that promoters want to use, and I think I’ve accomplished what I’ve set out to do so far. Of course, I would love to work for the National and worldwide promotions, and I believe that could be in my future. Fingers crossed.

Mateusz: How did you gain experience working as a referee?

Izyk: I found the Santino Bros Wrestling Academy in February 2017, and started training 1st of March 2017. It was not easy. The Santino Bros school is tough! I will admit that I was not their best student, but I did the best I could, and when I started working on a regular basis, I just wanted to make my school and my trainers look good, and do my best to represent them well. When I started working on a regular basis in May 2017, I hustled to work at as many different promotions as I could. Got some help from other referees I work with, and just worked as often as possible, everywhere.

Mateusz: You worked at Santiago Bros Wrestling Academy in USA. What did you do there?

Izyk: Santino Bros is my home. Once wrestling gets back to normal, I will still be working there and working even harder because we have been gone so long.

Mateusz: What do you think about Santiago Bros Wrestling Academy?

Izyk: I think that Santino Bros Wrestling Academy is the best wrestling school on the west coast of the United States. They train their students to be able to handle the wrestling world in the best possible way, and encourage them to believe I themselves. Everyone who steps out of the Santino Bros dojo is, as they proudly say: “Santino Tough”.

Mateusz: What is the atmosphere at Santiago Bros Wrestling Academy?

Izyk: The atmosphere at Santinos is pure positive energy. They want everyone to do their best, and to be serious about their training. They’re good with their students, but they won’t take any foolishness. You’re either serious about becoming a wrestler there, or you can get out. Not time for games.

Mateusz: Do many people watch Santiago Bros Wrestling Academy and Rogue Wrestling in USA?

 

Izyk: Santino Bros has about 69,000 subscribers to their YouTube channel, and their shows in the local area draw really well. The last event before wrestling was shut down drew over 300 people at the venue, which is a great turnout for an independent wrestling event. Rogue Wrestling is pretty new to the scene in Southern California, and has had about 5 events since its inception, so not as large of a following as Santino Bros. Mateusz: What is the difference between wrestling in Asia and wrestling in America?

Izyk: I don’t watch any wrestling from Asia, so I couldn’t give an educated opinion on the differences between them. I would guess not much is different, because wrestling seems to be pretty universal, but I can’t say for certain.

Mateusz: What do you think about intergender wrestling? Do you support this idea?

Izyk: Fans seem to like it, I think when it’s presented in a good way with the proper storytelling aspect that it can be really good. Wrestling is for everyone, so I will always be a fan of all types of wrestling, and I have nothing but complete respect for anyone who works hard to make a living in this business.

Mateusz: What moment do you remember the most?

Izyk: Wrestling moment I remember the most, was Shawn Michaels becoming the WWF Champion at Wrestlemania 12. I was there in the fifth row to witness it live.

Mateusz: In the locker room, you must get the chance to meet alot of other wrestlers, who was the biggest name you’ve met?

Izyk: I have met quite a few big names throughout the time I’ve watched wrestling as a fan, and working in wrestling as a referee. As far as in the locker room specifically, I’d say that John Morrison was really cool to meet. He worked at Rogue Wrestling events, and he was with Impact Wrestling when I got to work with them in 2018, and 2019.

Mateusz: We are currently living in a difficult period. How COVID-19 is working on referee? What does work at look like?

Izyk: We are definitely living in a different period right now. It’s been tough. I have not worked a live event since March, and I don’t know when, or if things will get back to the way it was. I just hope for the best. Other referees I know have also been out of work, except for a good friend of mine Rick Knox, who works for All Elite Wrestling.

Mateusz: Will wrestling return to normal?

Izyk: I can’t say if wrestling will ever be “normal” again, I can just hope for the best. Everyone should just cross their fingers.

Mateusz: Do you have any hobbies besides wrestling?

Izyk: I don’t consider wrestling a hobby, I consider wrestling to be work that I am happy doing. Hobbies I do have, are music and art. I haven’t practiced either for some time now, but those are two of my interests.

Mateusz: What is the hardest thing about being a referee?

Izyk: The hardest thing part would be the travel. Being on the road driving for hours can sometimes be a discomfort. Occasionally getting a few hours of sleep between events can also be difficult, but you push through to do what you love.

Mateusz: What can you suggest that persons who want to become a referee on?

Izyk: I suggest that anyone who wants to be a referee, should go to a wrestling school and train. Be prepared before you attempt to train, because it’s hard. You need to be in decent enough shape to be able to handle the workouts, and the training. It’s very physical, and you can get hurt if you’re not prepared, or if you don’t take it seriously.

Mateusz: What are your future plans?

Izyk: My future plans would be to continue working as often as possible, and to start branching out to work in different areas in the United States. Ultimately the primary goal would be to sign a contract with a major company like WWE or AEW. Wish me luck!!

Mateusz: Is there anything you want to tell readers MyWrestling?

Izyk: Your readers should definitely try to view Santino Bros events, or Championship Wrestling from Hollywood shows, either on YouTube or wherever you can find them. If it’s not possible to see any of those events, just watch whatever wrestling you can, and show your support for what you love. I don’t know if there is an independent circuit where you are, but if so, please support those shows most importantly. Also be good to each other, and show love to your fellow man. Be well everyone!
