Gala WWE Backlash odbywała się regularnie w latach 1999-2009, była ona nadawana na żywo w systemie Pay-Per-View. Ostatnia gala odbyła się w 2009 roku, natomiast od 2010 zastąpiona została przez Extreme Rules.
Tegoroczna gala WWE PPV Backlash odbędzie się 11 września 2016 roku w Richmond Coliseum w Richmond. Będzie to gala przydzielona wyłącznie dla wrestlerów występujących na SmackDown.
