Mateusz: Dziękuję za wywiad, Jay. Jak się masz?

Wam Bam Bellows: Wam Bam Bellows ma się bardzo dobrze. Siedzę w Malezji i piję piwo.

Mateusz: Może na początek, dla fanów którzy ”mogli nie mieć z tobą styczności” mógłbyś opisać kilka informacji dotyczących twojej osoby?

Wam Bam Bellows: Uważam się za osobę inteligentną z duszą klauna co czyni mnie kimś wyjątkowym. Ponadto jestem 28-letnim australijskim wrestlerem, obecnie działającym w Malezjii dla AWE. Kocham wrestling, podróże, plaże i dobrą zabawę.

Mateusz: Kiedy rozpoczęła się twoja przygoda z pro-wrestlingiem? 

Wam Bam Bellows: Zawsze kochałem wrestling, jako dziecko, gdy miałem 13 lat zacząłem uczęszczać na lokalne show w Adelaide w Południowej Australii i po 2 latach rozpocząłem treningi pod okiem Col Dervany, legendy australijskiego wrestlingu z lat 60 ubiegłego wieku. Col nie akceptował niczego poza perfekcją i trenował mnie 2 lata przed debiutem, który nastąpił 23 czerwca 2006 roku. Byłem ostatnim uczniem Cola Dervany, niestety zmarł na początku tego roku. Wszystko co mam zawdzięczam jemu, nie tylko w wrestlingu ale także w życiu, za uczenie 15- letniego leniwego nastolatka szacunku i dyscypliny.

Mateusz: Czy mogłeś liczyć na wsparcie ze strony rodziny? 

Wam Bam Bellows: Mój tata to kochał, mama przez pierwszych kilka lat nienawidziła tego co robię. Myślę, że teraz to toleruje. To dziwne połączenie pomiędzy ” Jestem dumna z syna, że podąża za marzeniami” i ” Czemu nadal robisz sobie te głupie rzeczy” zależnie od dnia w którym ją zapytam.

Mateusz: Czy ktoś miał wpływ na twoją karierę?

Wam Bam Bellows: Jako dziecko moim ulubionym wrestlerem był Road Dogg przez 2 tygodnie zanim zacząłem oglądać taśmy Micka Foleya i Shawn Michalesa. Nie byłem jego fanem zanim zostałem zawodnikiem, ale jestem ogromnym fanem Bruisera Brody i podziwiam sposób w jaki wyznaczył własną ścieżkę w wrestlingu. Z australijskich lokalnych wrestlerów jak John E Radic, Doc Kinkaid, Southern Pitbull, Chopper Coleman, Man Mountain i Hartley Jackson to oni zainspirowali mnie i pomogli uświadomić, że możliwe jest zostanie pro wrestlerem osoby pochodzącej z Australii.

Mateusz: Gdzie zrodził się pomysł na twój pseudonim „Wam Bam Bellows” ?

Wam Bam Bellows: Bellows pochodzi z piosenkii Boba Dylana „Hurricane” z którą zmagałem się jako WB Bellows przez kilka lat. Gdy byłem kilka kilogramów cięższy i miałem długie włosy, przypominałem światowej klasy, środkowo- południową japońską legendę wrestlingu Terry „Bam Bam Gordy”. Niektórzy sugerowali bym zmienił pseudonim na Bam Bam Bellows ale pomyślałem, że to brzmi za bardzo podobnie do Bam Bam Biggelow, potem doszedłem do wniosku, że „Wam Bam” wywiera taki sam efekt i pozwala mi zawrzeć moje inicjały.

Mateusz: Co sądzisz na temat Cola Dervany’ego?

Wam Bam Bellows: Kocham Cola Dervany’ego. Uważam go za jednego z najlepszych, prawdopodobnie osobę, która miała na mnie najlepszy wpływ i za mojego najlepszego przyjaciela. Nadal uczę się jak radzić sobie po jego stracie. Bez niego wrestling w zachodniej Australii nie istniałby. Jestem dumny, że mogę reprezentować Cola za każdym razem gdy wchodzę na ring i jako ostatni uczeń solidnej firmy, wymagam od siebie wyższego standardu jako ” ostatni prawdziwy potwór”

Mateusz: Czy w twoim kraju rodzinnym występuje wrestling?

Wam Bam Bellows: Jest tu wiele wartościowych organizacji wrestlingu i kilka najlepszych talentów na świecie, niestety miasta Australii są oddalone od siebie i walki nie są tanie, co utrudnia utrzymanie się z bycia wyłącznie pro wrestlerem.

Mateusz: Czy kiedykolwiek walczyłeś w Jordanii? Czy to niebezpieczne miejsce?

Wam Bam Bellows: Walczyłem w Jordanii po wygraniu the Middle East title w Tajlandii w 2015 roku, to było niezwykłe doświadczenie, w 95% czasu bardzo mi się podobało i mogłem zobaczyć romański amfiteatr, unosić się na Morzu Czarnym i byłem bardzo miło przyjęty przez ludzi z Jordanii. Jednakże mój pojedynek w Jordanii był zupełnie innym doświadczeniem, podczas walki zauważyłem, że jeden z fanów w ringu trzyma kij baseballowy grożąc mi, po tym jak lokalny bohater Zuhar Hundami pokonał mnie zdobywając tytuł. Duża część tłumu okrążyła ring by z nim świętować, potem dwóch popchnęło mnie a ja ich odepchnąłem, nie miałem szans i szybko uciekłem, poruszając się zdecydowanie najszybciej w swoim życiu. Powiedziano mi później, że dookoła mojej prywatnej szatni było 17 uzbrojonych policjantów.

Mateusz: Słyszałem od pewnych osób w naszym kraju, że jesteś… Polakiem, tudzież masz polskie korzenie. Mógłbyś to potwierdzić?

Wam Bam Bellows: Mój pradziadek był Polakiem, a moja prababcia była Rosjanką. Wyemigrowali do Australii po wojnie. Pradziadek żył do mojego 13 roku życia. Dobrze pamiętam jak przyjeżdżaliśmy do niego w każde święta Bożego Narodzenia i jedzenie pysznych placów co rok !

Mateusz: Placki? Hahaha również je uwielbiam. Jakie było twoje pierwsze wrażenie, gdy zobaczyłeś Mike i zrozumiałeś, że oboje jesteście Polakami?

Wam Bam Bellows: Haha tęsknię za nim! Mam nadzieję, że mój nowy polski przyjaciel odwiedzi mnie w Boże Narodzenie, to było zbyt długo!! Ten facet jest szalony! Ale w najlepszy możliwy sposób, wierzę, że normalność to innego słowo dla nudy i każdy jest szalony, niektórzy tylko bardziej niż inni. Przypomina mi mnie gdy jestem pijany, zwłaszcza, że on nie ma wyłącznika. Nawiązując do Polski, to super poznać kogoś kto pochodzi z kraju mojej rodziny, niestety nigdy nie byłem w Europie, ale chciałbym spędzić tam chociaż jeden dzień!

Mateusz: Czy kiedykolwiek piłeś piwo z Polski?

Wam Bam Bellows: Kocham pić Tyskie!

Mateusz: Słyszałeś o polskim wrestlingu wcześniej?

Wam Bam Bellows: Słyszałem o KPW, nie wiem o nim zbyt wiele ale chętnie zabrałbym każdego kto ma odwagę stanąć w ringu z Benchmark of Brutality ( to ja jakiego nie znasz).

Mateusz: W Polsce funkcjonują dwie organizacje: Maniac Zone Wrestling oraz Kombat Pro Wrestling. Czy miałeś okazję występować z kimś pochodzenia polskiego?

Wam Bam Bellows: Jeszcze nie, ale cieszyłbym się z takiej szansy.

Mateusz: Jaki styl w ringu preferujesz?

Wam Bam Bellows: Lubię styl gritty, komedyjną brutalność, z old school-owymi skokami i wrzuconymi elementami crash bang Western style.

Mateusz: Co sądzisz na temat AWE Asia Wrestling Entertainment?

Wam Bam Bellows: Myślę, że AWE ma duży potencjał, jestem dumny mogąc być częścią marki od początku i nie mogę się doczekać tego, co przyniesie przyszłość.
Myślę, że Południowo-Wschodnia Azja jest jednym z najmniej wykorzystanych terenów dla profesjonalnego wrestlingu. Jestem zaszczycony mogąc wyznaczać swój własny szlak w pro wrestlingu, rzadziej podążając cudzą ścieżką.

Mateusz: Czy możesz opisać swój najdłuższy pojedynek?

Wam Bam Bellows: Szczerze, nigdy nie nosiłem stopera podczas walki, pamiętam 40-minutową zespołową walkę w 2010 gdy wygrałem tytuł tag team po raz pierwszy, drut kolczasty, kule ognia, pinezki i stoły oraz inne formy szaleństwa, najbliżej jakie kiedykolwiek czułem, by wyjść z walki, ale zamieniłem się by ostatecznie podnieść rękę.

Mateusz: WOW, czyli występowałeś niemal na całym świecie. Co mógłbyś powiedzieć osobom, które chcą rozpocząć karierę w wrestlingu?

Wam Bam Bellows: Moim celem jest wystąpienie na każdym kontynencie jeszcze przed 30, więc jeśli ktoś z Afryki, Południowej Ameryki lub Europy chciałby do mnie napisać to jestem zainteresowany… Chcę też odwiedzić Antarktydę, mogę walczyć z niedźwiedziem polarnym, jeśli cena będzie odpowiednia.

Mateusz: Co jest najtrudniejsze w byciu wrestlerem?

Wam Bam Bellows: Pierwszych kilka lat jest trudne, gdy próbuje się pogodzić wresling ze zwykłą pracą i czymś przypominającym życie towarzyskie, nie wiedząc kiedy i czy w ogóle twój wielki czas nadejdzie, będąc daleko od rodziny i tych których kochasz. Od strony psychicznej nie jest to zbyt łatwe, ale nie uważam tego za najgorszą część.

Mateusz: Jakie są twoje największe osiągnięcia w Wrestlingu?

Wam Bam Bellows: Przechodząc rozwój od dziecka, któremu mówiono,że nigdy tego nie osiągnie do żyjącego ponad morzami wrestlera jest moim największym osiągnięciem. Ponadto walki w 8 krajach, walka z legendarnym 67-letnim Great Kabukim, wygranie the Middle East Heavyweight title (Jordan), Wrestlesquare Intercontinental title (India), KWF title (Thailand), wygranie the PWSA Tag team tile 6 razy z moim partnerem Doc Kinkaid as Beer i Loathing i dwa razy the Adelaide Open Title , wygranie the 2015 Snakepit Pro Wrestling War Games Cup i the 2016 Unbelievable tag team tournament w Japonii z „Heavy Barron” Michael Weaver.

Mateusz: Jakie są twoje najbliższe cele?

Wam Bam Bellows: Walkami zarabiać na życie.
Walczyć na każdym kontynencie.

Wam Bam Bellows: Wspierajcie lokalny wrestling! Oraz waszych lokalnych wrestlerów, jeśli naprawdę chcecie być wrestlerem, gońcie swoje marzenia i nie dajcie nikomu się zatrzymać. Powiedzcie Waszym lokalnym promotorom, że chcecie zobaczyć Wam Bam Bellows. Wesołych Świąt i Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku.

Mateusz: Thank you for interview, Jay. How are you?

Wam Bam Bellows: Wam Bam Bellows is doing pretty damn well, sitting in Malaysia drinking a few beers

Mateusz: For those who don’t know you how would you describe yourself?

Wam Bam Bellows: I consider myself an intelligent person with the soul of a clown that’s causes me to blow it at the last minute….. Other than that I’m a 28 year old Australian wrestler, now based in Malaysia for AWE. Love wrestling, travelling, the beach and having fun.

Mateusz: How did you get your start in professional wrestling? 

Wam Bam Bellows: I always loved wrestling as a kid, when I was 13 I started attending local shows in Adelaide, South Australia and after 2 years I started training under Col Dervany, a legend of wrestling in Australia dating back to the 1960s. Col wouldn’t except anything less than the best and made me train for 2 years before finally debuting on June 23rd 2006, I was Col Dervany’s last student, sadly he passed away earlier this year. I credit ever thing I have to him, not just in wrestling but in life, for teaching a lazy 15 year old kid respect and discipline.

Mateusz: What does your family think of your wrestling career?

Wam Bam Bellows: My Dad loves it, my mum hated it for the first few years, now she kind of tolerates it I guess. It’s a weird mix between „I’m proud of my son for following his dreams” and „why do you keep doing that stupid shit to yourself” depending on the day you ask her.

Mateusz: Who influenced you to become a wrestler?

Wam Bam Bellows: As a kid my first favorite wrestler was road dogg for 2 weeks until I started watching tapes of Mick Foley and shawn Michaels. I wasn’t a fan of him until I was already a worker but I’m a huge fan of Bruiser Brody and admire the way he created his own path in wrestling. In Australia local wrestlers at the time such as John E Radic, Doc Kinkaid, Southern Pitbull, Chopper Coleman, Man Mountain and Hartley Jackson inspired me and help me realise it was a possibility for someone living in Australia to become a pro wrestler.

Mateusz: Where did the idea for your ring name „Wam Bam Bellows”?

Wam Bam Bellows: Bellows came from the Bob Dylan song „Hurricane” I wrestled as WB Bellows for a few years. When I was a few kgs heavier and had long hair, I resembled world class, mid south and Japanese wrestling legend Terry „Bam Bam Gordy”. Someone suggested I change my name to Bam Bam Bellows but I thought that sounded too much like a rip off of Bam Bam biggelow, then I realised „Wam Bam” had the same effect and meant I could keep my initials.

Mateusz: What do you think about Col Dervany?

Wam Bam Bellows: I love Col Dervany. I consider him one of the greatest, probably the greatest influences in my life and one of my best friends. I’m still learning to cope with losing him, he could be a harsh prick at times but he was always coming from a good place. If it wasn’t for him wrestling wouldn’t exist outside of the Eastern States in Australia today. I’m proud to represent Col with every time I step in to the ring, and as the last student of the monster factory, I hold myself to a much higher standard as the „last real monster”.

Mateusz: Is there wrestling in your home country?

Wam Bam Bellows: There is a lot of quality wrestling promotions in Australia and some of the greatest talent in the world, unfortunately the cities in Australia are very spread out and flights aren’t cheap, making it difficult to make a living as a full time pro wrestler.

Mateusz: Have you ever got wrestle in Jordan? It is dangerous place?

Wam Bam Bellows: I wrestled in Jordan after winning the Middle East title in Thailand in 2015,
It was a surreal experience to say the least for 95% of the time I loved it and was amazingly well treated, loved seeing the roman ampetheatre. And floating in the dead Sea and was treated really well by the Jordanian people. How ever my match in Jordan was a different experience, during the match I spotted a fan at ring side holding a baseball bat threatening me, after their local hero Zuhar hundami defeated me to win the title a large portion of the crowd swarmed the ring to celebrate with him after 2 pushed me and I pushed them back I wasn’t taking any chances and ran out of there, definitely the fastest I’ve ever moved in my life. I was then told there were 17 armed policeman outside my private locker room.

Mateusz: I have heard from some people in Poland that you are… a Pole or you have Polish roots. You can confirm this?

Wam Bam Bellows: My great grandfather was Polish, my great grandmother was Russian and they migrated to Australia after the war. He lived until I was 13, I vividly remember going to his house every Christmas as a kid and enjoying placki every year!

Mateusz: What was your first impression when you have seen Mika and you realised both of you’re are Polish?

Wam Bam Bellows: Haha I miss them! Hopefully my new polish friend will make me some for Christmas, it has been too long!! This guys fucking crazy! But in the best possible way, I believe normal Is another word for boring and everyone is crazy, some just hide it better than others
He remindeds me of me when I’m drunk, except he doesn’t have an off switch. As far as the Polish thing, it’s cool to meet someone where my family is from, sadly I’ve never been to Europe but would love to get over there one day!

Mateusz: Have you ever heard about polish pro wrestling scene before?

Wam Bam Bellows: I’ve heard of KPW, I don’t know a whole lot about them but would gladly take on anyone there who has the balls to step in the ring with the Benchmark of Brutality (that’s me incase you don’t know).

Mateusz: In Poland among others functions organization MZW- Maniac Zone Wrestling and KPW – Kombat Pro Wrestling. Did you have an occasion to fight with someone who has polish roots?

Wam Bam Bellows: Not yet, but I’d love to have the chance.

Mateusz: What style do you prefer in the ring?

Wam Bam Bellows: I like to work a gritty style, comedic Brutality, with a little old school catch and crash bang Western style thrown in.

Mateusz: What do you think about AWE Asia Wrestling Entertainment?

Wam Bam Bellows: I think AWE has a lot of potential, I’m proud to be apart of the brand from the beginning and can’t wait to see what the future brings. I think South East Asia is one of the untapped markets for Professional Wrestling, and am glad to be blazing my own trail in pro wrestling, rather than following the path of someone else.

Mateusz: Can you describe your longest match?

Wam Bam Bellows: Honestly man, I never carried a stop watch when I wrestled, I remember doing a 40 minute hardcore tag team match in 2010 when I won the tag team titles for the first time, barbed wire, fire balls, thumbtacks and tables and all kinds of insanity, the closest I’ve ever felt to walking out of a war but I manged to get my hand raised in the end.

Mateusz: What do you advise people who want to start a career wrestling?

Wam Bam Bellows: My goal is every continent by the time I turn 30, so any promoters in Africa, South America or Europe feel free to message me… Have boots will travel Antarctica too, I’ll fight a polar bear, if the price is right.

Mateusz: What is the hardest thing about being a wrestler?

Wam Bam Bellows: The first few years are always going to be tough, trying to balance wrestling with a real job, and something resembling a social life. The grind of not knowing if or when your big break will finally come. Being away from your family and loved ones. The physical side of it isn’t easy either, but I don’t consider it the hardest part.

Mateusz: What are your biggest accomplishments in Wrestling?

Wam Bam Bellows: Managing to rise from a kid who was told he would never make it, to living over seas wrestling full time is by far my biggest accomplishment. Other than that, wrestling in 8 different countries, and counting, wrestling the legendary Great Kabuki at 67 years old
Winning the Middle East Heavyweight title (Jordan), Wrestlesquare Intercontinental title (India), KWF title (Thailand), winning the PWSA Tag team tile 6 times with my tag team partner Doc Kinkaid as Beer and Loathing and the Adelaide Open Title twice, winning the 2015 Snakepit Pro Wrestling War Games Cup and the 2016 Unbelievable tag team tournament in Japan with „Heavy Barron” Michael Weaver.

Mateusz: What are your goals?

Wam Bam Bellows: Wrestle for a living.
Wrestle in every continent.
Wrestle in every state of Australia.
Wrestle at the Thebarton Theatre in Australia.
Wrestle as well as I can for as long as I can.
To help grow the AWE brand and be one of the first big stars of a major territory.

Mateusz: Have you ever drank beer from Poland?

Wam Bam Bellows: I love to drink tyskie!
