MyWrestling: Dziękuję za wywiad, Mel. Jak się masz?

Mel: Mam się dobrze. Tylko jestem w samolocie i wracam do Chicago, mojego drogiego małego mieszkania.

MyWrestling: Może na początek, dla fanów którzy ”mogli nie mieć z tobą styczności” mogłabyś opisać kilka informacji dotyczących twojej osoby?

Mel: Mogę opisać siebie jako wojownika śniącego marzeniami, kochającego najbliższe osoby oraz cieszącego się życiem w bardzo ciekawy sposób!

MyWrestling: Kiedy rozpoczęła się twoja przygoda z pro-wrestlingiem? W 2014 roku zadebiutowałaś na scenie pro wrestlingu. Czy od tego momentu zmieniło się coś w wrestlingu? Czy mogłaś liczyć na wsparcie ze strony rodziny? Przez kogo zostałaś przeszkolona? Czy ktoś miał wpływ na twoją karierę?

Mel: To się wydarzyło w bardzo dziwny sposób, ponieważ pracowałam w zakładzie rehabilitacyjnym dla młodych ludzi, a jeden z moich najlepszych przyjaciół zaprosił mnie do pójścia na lokalny event organizowany przez federację APW. Nie potraktowałem jego zaproszenia poważnie, ale w dzień w którym on uczestniczył w tym wydarzeniu doszły mnie słuchy o organizowaniu obozów szkoleniowych przez szkoły wrestlingowe. Pojawiłam się tam mimo iż nie miałam żadnego zaplecza akrobacyjnego, sportowego oraz teatralnego, które było niezbędne w tym sporcie.

W tym samym czasie znacznie więcej kobiet zaczęło pojawiać się w lokalnych federacjach w Północnej Kalifornii. Wiele z nich aktualnie posiada różne bardzo ważne tytuły, które są prestiżowe dla poszczególnych organizacji lub po prostu ciężko trenują i występują na całym świecie. Pojedynki, w których udział biorą wrestlerzy/wrestlerki są bardziej zabawne i przyjemne niż ciężkie pod względem fizycznym. Cieszę się, że moi koledzy potrafili wypromować się w tym biznesie i tworzą lepszą odsłonę siebie.

Na samym początku nie chciałam o tym z nikim rozmawiać. Moi rodzice nie byli zadowoleni z mojej decyzji, ale nie mieli żadnego wyboru i musieli zaakceptować, to co robię w pełnym wymiarze czasowym. Obecnie mój tata odwiedza mnie coraz częściej i wspiera podczas moich pojedynków. Z drugiej strony zawsze mogłam liczyć na wsparcie ze strony mojego męża, aż do takiego stopnia, że czasami czułam iż on chce więcej walczyć niż ja! Popycha mnie i napędza do przekraczania kolejnych barier, abym stała się najlepsza.

Moimi obecnymi trenerami są Dylan Drake oraz Matt Carlos. Natomiast przed ich spotkaniem krótko współpracowałam z Rikiem Luxury, Io Sharai, Mike Mathewsem, Kevinem Quinnem, Fantasmą itp.

Zawsze starałam się szukać osób, które były silne oraz nieustraszone. Jedną z nich była Sarah Stock, od której miałam okazję nauczyć się wiele przydatnych rzeczy, zauważyłam również, że jej pasją był wrestling oraz bycie dominatorem w ringu. Przed rozpoczęciem wspólnych treningów wysłałam jej wiadomość na Facebooku, w której poinformowałam ją, że była dla mnie wzorem do naśladowania. Na odpowiedź nie musiałam czekać zbyt długo. Kiedy moja przygoda z wrestlingiem rozpoczęła się na poważnie, to moimi wzorami stali się również Sherry Martel oraz Shawn Michaels. Uwielbiałam ich zdolności ringowe, jak również ich zdolność do hipnotyzowania publiczności, kiedy wygłaszali swoje proma.

MyWrestling: Gdzie zrodził się pomysł na twój pseudonim „Kobra Moon” ?

Mel: To jest pytanie, na które tak naprawdę nie znam odpowiedzi!

MyWrestling: Czy pamiętasz swój pierwszy pojedynek? Kiedy i w jakiej organizacji debiutowałaś?

Mel: Tak swój pierwszy pojedynek stoczyłam w Meksyku, kiedy miałam 18 lat. W Ameryce nie oglądałam wrestlingu aż do ukończenia 21 roku życia, kiedy to obejrzałam Live Event SmackDown oraz WrestleManie z udziałem Shawna Michaelsa oraz The Undertakera! Rozpoczęłam wolontariusz w federacji APW w Hayward, CA w latach 2012-2013.

MyWrestling: Jakie są twoje największe osiągnięcia w Wrestlingu?

Mel: To młoda dziewczyna, którą poznałam kilka tygodni temu. Napisała ona esej o tym, kto był dla niej inspiracją. W eseju wyjaśniła, że w momencie naszego spotkania zauważyła moje zaangażowanie oraz pasję do wrestlingu, co było dla niej motywacją do tego, aby stać się silną oraz nieustraszoną młodą kobietą.

MyWrestling: Czy mogłabyś wymienić i opisać swój ulubiony pojedynek, w którym miałaś okazję wystąpić?

Mel: Kobieca walka z Crazy Mary Dobson. Młody i bardzo utalentowany sportowiec, która z uśmiechem na twarzy była gotowa do współpracy. W ubiegłym roku stoczyłam dwa bardzo ciekawe pojedynki z Holidead. Zniszczyliśmy siebie nawzajem, ale okazało się, że istnieje więź między nami.

MyWrestling: Co sprawia, że wyróżniasz się z pośród wrestlerek?

Mel: Mnie!?? Cóż chyba nie widziałeś dziewczyny, która każdego dnia ma przynajmniej połowę twarzy zamalowaną. Biorę mój gimmick bardzo poważnie. Ona słyszy szepty swojego zmarłego dziadka oraz widzi duchy zmarłych wojowników Azteków. W moich żyłach płynie krew wojownika i uroczy wygląd Thunder. Ona jest złośliwa oraz bezwzględna.

MyWrestling: Z kim Ci się najlepiej współpracowało w dotychczasowej karierze?

Mel: Żyłam z współpracy z Drago, Aerostar, Sexy Star oraz z pozostałymi osobami z Lucha Underground. Oni są pełni wiedzy i wzięli mnie pod swoje skrzydła, abym mogła dowiedzieć się nowych rzeczy. Również jestem zadowolona z współpracy z producentami, pisarzami oraz personelem. Nauczyłam się tak wiele w tak krótkim czasie! Jestem błogosławiona.

MyWrestling: W jaki sposób znalazłaś się w Lucha Underground?

Mel: My kiedyś w Japonii mieliśmy okazję oglądać wideo z Lucha Underground i tak się stało.

MyWrestling: Co możesz powiedzieć o Lucha Underground?

Mel: Lucha Underground jest doskonałą platformą dla takich talentów jak ja, która umożliwia odkrywanie nowych horyzontów. Nigdy nie widziałam wrestlingu w takim wymiarze. Wrestling dla mnie jest teatrem, rozwojem charakteru, magią, dramatem itp. W Lucha Underground doświadczycie tego wszystkiego. Podczas oglądania nie próbuj zrozumieć wrestlingu, ale zanurz się w opowieści, jakiej nigdy nie widziałeś i wtedy będziesz w stanie zrozumieć ból, pragnienie władzy, przemoc, miłość i wszystkie inne zawiłe motywy, które istnieją na naszym show.

MyWrestling: Co myślisz na temat Sexy Star?

Mel: Jest doskonałym motywatorem. Ona złamała wiele przepisów w tej branży i jestem szczęśliwa, że mogę z nią współpracować oraz uczyć się od niej wielu aspektów życiowych.

MyWrestling: Co czułaś kiedy po raz pierwszy zdobyłaś GRPW Lady Luck Championship?

Mel: Cóż, to dużo dla mnie znaczyło. Pracowałam dla tej firmy od powijaka. Byłam dumna z bycia jedną z niewielu kobiet mieszczących się w pierwszej klasie. Zdobyłam ten pas, broniłam go wszędzie i byłam dumna.

MyWrestling: Jaki jest twój wymarzony pojedynek?

Mel: Wydaje mi się, że nie mogę o tym powiedzieć, bo byłby to spoiler.

MyWrestling: Jak wygląda dzień wolny w twoim wykonaniu? Masz jakieś hobby?

Mel: Siłownia, szperanie w internecie, stałe rozmowy z przyjaciółmi przez telefon oraz dużo podróżowania! Nie do końca, czasami robię bransoletki.

MyWrestling: Jakie są twoje najbliższe cele?

Mel: Wspaniałe pytanie. Kolejny rok w mojej karierze wkrótce się skończy. Odbyłam refleksje nad moimi celami, które sobie obrałam na ten rok i cieszę się, że udało mi się je osiągnąć. Teraz myślę, że chce również w innych miejscach zwyciężać. Myślę, że moim celem na rok 2017 jest podróż po Europie i nawiązanie współpracy z różnymi lokalnymi organizacjami w celu podniesienia swojej pozycji oraz dostanie się do rankingu PWI.

Mel: Chcę podziękować wszystkim za przeczytanie tego wywiadu. MyWrestling: Thank you for interview, Mel. How are you?

Mel: I’m doing great. Just in a plane going back from Chicago to my dear small apartment.

MyWrestling: For those who dont know you how would you describe yourself?

Mel: As a fighter, dreamer, overachiever and loving individual who is enjoying life in a very interesting way!

MyWrestling: How did you get your start in professional wrestling? As you debuted in 2014, how do you believe that the wrestling scene has improved? What does your family think of your wrestling career? Please tell us who trained you? Who influenced you to become a wrestler?

Mel: It was in a vey weird way, I was working in a Rehab facility for young people and one of my dear friends invited me to a local APW show. I didn’t take his invitation serious but the day we attended the event, I heard of a tryout for wrestling school the next day. I attended and well the rest is history.
I have no background in wrestling, I was just drawn to it for the theatricals, the acrobatics and the athleticism needed for this sport.

Well in Northern California, more women began to pop up and to wrestle all over Cal and other states. Many of them are now holding important titles, are in prestigious companies or they just continue with the grind and making waves everywhere they go.
The matches in general are more physical, entertaining and fun. I’m happy that my colleagues are pushing themselves to better themselves.

At first, I was really not allowed to talk about it. My parents definitely were not in agreement with this but they had no choice but to accept that I was doing this full time.
Now my dad. Comes to see me more often and he enjoys my matches.
My husband on the other hand, he had always been extremely supportive, sometimes I feel he wants to wrestle more than I do! He pushes me and drives me to new limits in order to be the best.

My original trainers are Dylan Drake and Matt Carlos.
After that I have trained briefly with Rik luxury, Io Sharai, Mike Mathews,Kevin Quinn, vaquero Fantasma, etc.

I always look for female figures that are strong, fearless and different. One of them was Sarah Stock, as I began to learn more about her I noticed that she grew a passion for fitness and she was a gladiator in the ring. Before I started training I sent her a Facebook message telling her that she was one of my influences. She was kind to respond me right away and that made me feel pretty good.
As I began to study more wrestling, definitely Sherry Martel and Shawn Michaels are a great influence. I love their in ring ability,as well as their ability to mesmerize the public when they get on the microphone.

MyWrestling: Where did the idea for your ring name „Kobra Moon”?

Mel: That is a question that I really don’t know the answer!

MyWrestling: Do you remember your first outing as a wrestler? When and where you started at organization?

Mel: Yes the first time I attended a wrestling show was in Mexico when I was 18 yrs old. In America, I didn’t watch wrestling until I was 21, it was a live event in SD then Wrestlemania, where I saw Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker! I started to volunteer at APW In Hayward, CA in 2012-2013.

MyWrestling: What are your biggest accomplishments in Wrestling?

Mel: That a young girl that I met a couple of weeks ago wrote an essay about who inspired her. Here, she explained that by meeting me and seeing my passion for the sport, motivates her to be a strong and fearless young woman.

MyWrestling: Please tell us what some of your favourite matches have been from your career.

Mel: Girl fight with Crazy Mary Dobson. Young talented and athletic, ready going and a joy to work with.
My first and second match with Holidead last year. We destroyed each other but we found out the bond that exist between us.

MyWrestling: What is a day off in your performance? Do you have any hobby?

Mel: Gym, Internet search, being on the phone with friends and driving A LOT! Not really, sometimes I make bracelets.

MyWrestling: For those that have never seen you wrestle what makes you stand out?

Mel: Me! ?? well you don’t see a girl with half face paint every day. I take my gimmick really serious, she is the whispers of my dead grandfather, the fighting spirits of death Aztec warriors. Warrior’s blood runs in my veins and Thunder as cute as she might look, she is vicious and relentless.

MyWrestling: Who have you enjoyed working with the most so far in your career?

Mel: Lord I live working with Drago, Aerostar, sexy star and many other s from lucha underground. They are so full of knowledge and they take me under their wing to learn new stuff. The producers ,writers And staff in general are amazing. I have learned SOOO MUCH just in a short period of time! I’m blessed.

MyWrestling: How did you find in Lucha Underground?

Mel: In Japan, we used to watch bootleg videos.

MyWrestling: What do you think about Sexy Star?

Mel: A great motivator. She definitely has broken many rules in this business and I’m happy That I get to work and learn from her in many aspects of life.

MyWrestling: What can you say about Lucha Underground?

Mel: LU had been a great platform for talent like me to push themselves to new horizons. I have never seen wrestling in an one dimensional way. Wrestling for me is theatrics, character development, magic, drama, etc. Lucha Underground had that and some. When you are watching it don’t try to understand the wrestling, immerse yourself in a story that you never seen before and THEN you will be able to understand, the pain, the thirst for power, the violence, the love and all the other intricate themes that exist on our show.

MyWrestling: What was it like winning the GRPW Lady Luck Championship for the first time?

Mel: Well it mean a lot. I worked for that company since its infancy. I was proud to be one of the few woman standing in the first class. I took that belt everywhere I went cause I was so proud of it.

MyWrestling: What is your dream match?

Mel: I think I can’t really say because y will be a spoiler.

MyWrestling: What are your goals?

Mel: Great question. As another year in my career is about to be over, I had been reflecting on the goals that I set for myself and that I was able to achieve.
Now I’m thinking what other places I want to conquer, what other people I want to motivate.
I think my goal for 2017 is to perform in Europe, began to work with local organizations to raise awareness about domestic violence in the Hispanic community,perhaps get ranked in PWI.
