Hakeem Waqur, to doświadczony izraelski wrestler, który od wielu lat prezentuje się na europejskiej scenie wrestlingowej. Miał okazję wielokrotnie pojawiać się w takich federacjach, jak: Westside Xtreme Wrestling, New European Championship Wrestling, All Star Wrestling, czy German Wrestling Promotion.

Mateusz: Dziękuję za wywiad, Hakeem. Jak się masz?

Hakeem: Mam się dobrze, dziękuję.

Mateusz: Dla osób, które Cię nie znają. Jak opisałbyś siebie?

Hakeem: Jestem arabskim profesjonalnym wrestlerem Hakeem Waqur.

Mateusz: Jakie są twoje pierwsze wspomnienia z wrestlingiem?

Hakeem: Oglądanie programów telewizyjnych WWF w telewizji w latach 90.

Mateusz: Jak rozpoczęła się twoja przygoda z profesjonalnym wrestlingiem? Zadebiutowałeś w 2011 roku, czy od tego momentu poprawiła się scena wrestlingowa? Co rodzina myśli o twojej karierze wrestlingowej? Kto Cię przeszkolił oraz miał wpływ na Ciebie?

Hakeem: Szukałem szkoły wrestlingowej… Na początku znalazłem szkołę w Wiedniu (EWA School), ale była za daleko. Potem zacząłem trenować w Norymberdze (Wright Pro Wrestling School). Później odbyłem szkolenie w wXw Academy w Essen oraz All Star Wrestling School w Wielkiej Brytanii.  Moja rodzina była/jest przeciwna przerwaniu studiów oraz tego, że chciałem zostać profesjonalnym wrestlerem, ale w tym przypadku ja decyduję, jak oraz gdzie muszę się udać.

Mateusz: Kiedy odbył się twój pierwszy pojedynek i co z niego pamiętasz?

Hakeem:  Koniec 2011 roku w Izraelu.
To było małe wydarzenie wrestlingowe. Pierwszy pojedynek w Europie stoczyłem w 2012 roku… Wtedy wszystko się zaczęło.

Mateusz: Kto był twoim idolem?

Hakeem: Było wiele nazwisk od momentu, kiedy zacząłem oglądać programy wrestlingowe w telewizji w latach 90-tych.

Mateusz: Skąd wziął się pomysł na twój ring name „Hakeem Waqur”?

Hakeem: Jestem czcigodny, mądry i władczy.

Mateusz: Kto wprowadził Cię do wrestlingu?

Hakeem: Jak wspomniałem wcześniej. Najlepszą rzeczą jest znalezienie dobrej szkoły wrestlingowej. Zaczynasz stamtąd.

Mateusz: Jakim jesteś wrestlerem? Hell, face, czy tweener?

Hakeem: Heel!

Mateusz: Pracujesz dla European Wrestling Association. Jakie są twoje zobowiązania wobec firmy?

Hakeem: Tak, pracuję dla EWA w Wiedniu (Austria). Jestem niemal na wszystkich ich wydarzeniach.

Mateusz: Co to jest European Wrestling Association?

Hakeem: Jedna z najbardziej znanych europejskich promocji w Europie. Największa i najbardziej profesjonalna w Austrii! Siedziba EWA znajduje się w Wiedniu w Austrii. Prowadzą także własną szkołę, a także show w innych miastach.

Mateusz: Jaka atmosfera panuje w wXw?

Hakeem: Przyjemna!

Mateusz:  Kto najbardziej pomógł Ci w wXw?

Hakeem: Zdecydowanie WALTER!

Mateusz: Który moment wspominasz najlepiej?

Hakeem: Miałem ich wiele…. Miałem tam dobre pojedynki i dobrze spędzony czas.

Mateusz: Czy trenujesz kogoś?

Hakeem: Tak, jestem odpowiedzialny za treningi w GWP Chop Center jako główny trenerem. Należy ono do GWP-German Wrestling Promotion. Prowadziłem również seminaria dla EWS w Erding.

Mateusz: Z kim z rosteru wXw chciałbyś się zmierzyć?

Hakeem: Z każdym. Każde wyzwanie zostanie przyjęte.

Mateusz: Spośród wszystkich meczów, w których do tej pory walczyłeś, który jest twoim ulubionym i dlaczego?

Hakeem: POW, EWA, GWP, a zwłaszcza mecze w Wielkiej Brytanii, ponieważ w Anglii jest większa widownia niż w pozostałej części Europy (nie zawsze!), więc tam zazwyczaj są większe reakcje fanów.

Mateusz: Czy wrestling w Izraelu jest popularny?

Hakeem: Ludzie w Izraelu i na Bliskim Wschodzie zazwyczaj wiedzą o wrestlingu, to co z programów telewizyjnych WWE. Niewiele osób wie lub ogląda indy wrestling. Kiedy mieszkałem w Izraelu, zanim przeprowadziłem się do Niemiec, nie mogłem chodzić do szkoły wrestlingowej, ponieważ ich tam nie było. Od kilku lat w Indiach na Ziemi Świętej odbywają się pokazy wrestlingowe i mam nadzieję, że wrestling stanie się popularniejszy w tym regionie.

Mateusz: Czy kontuzjowałeś kogoś, lub doznałeś poważnego urazu?

Hakeem: Dzięki Bogu do tej pory żadnych obrażeń.

Mateusz: W szatni można znaleźć wiele ciekawych nazwisk. Kogo poznałeś?

Hakeem: Zazwyczaj dogaduję się ze wszystkimi. Walczyłem z Tatanką, Tommym Dreamerem, Al Snowem, Chrisem Mastersem, MVP i wielu innych. Spotkałem również Gangrela, Kevina von Ericha, Johna Morrisona, Alberto Del Rio, Viscere.

Mateusz: Jaka jest różnica pomiędzy wrestlingiem w Izraelu i Austrii?

Hakeem: Ludzie w Europie (UK, czy też w USA) znają oraz oglądają znacznie więcej programów niezależnych. W Europie oraz krajach, które wymieniłem (także w Kanadzie, Meksyku i Japonii) można trenować w dobrych szkołach wrestlingowych.

Mateusz: Aktualnie żyjemy w trudnym czasie. Czy wrestling wróci do normy?

Hakeem: Mam nadzieję, że pod koniec lub na początku przyszłego roku wszystko wróci do normy.

Mateusz: Czy masz jakieś hobby poza wrestlingiem?

Hakeem: Tak, sport, polityka, historia itp.

Mateusz: Co jest najtrudniejszego w byciu wrestlerem?

Hakeem: Może przyzwyczajenie się do stylów innych wrestlerów, ale zawsze możesz dopasować się do każdego. To wszystko powinno być przyjemne, wygłaszanie prom oraz reprezentowanie swojej postaci, czy opowiadanie historii.

Mateusz: Co czułeś, kiedy zdobyłeś POW Tag Team Championship?

Hakeem: Zdecydowanie zasłużyłem na to.

Mateusz: Czy jest coś, co chciałbyś powiedzieć czytelnikom MyWrestling?

Mateusz: Thank you for interview, Hakeem. How are you?

Hakeem: I am fine thanks.

Mateusz: For those who don’t know you how would you describe yourself?

Hakeem: I am the Arab & Middleeastern Pro-Wrestler The Arabian Superstar-Hakeem Waqur.

Mateusz: What is your first memory about pro wrestling? 

Hakeem: Watching the WWF tv shows begin of 90’s.

Mateusz: How did you get your start in professional wrestling? As you debuted in 2011, how do you believe that the wrestling scene has improved? What does your family think of your wrestling career? Please tell us who trained you? Who influenced you to become a wrestler?

Hakeem: I was looking for a Wrestling school..In the beginning i found one in Vienna(EWA School) but it was too far but then i started to train in Nürnberg (Wright Pro Wrestling School). Later i had Training also in wXw Academy in Essen and at All Star Wrestling School in the UK during my tours in the United Kingdom for ASW. My family is/was against breaking up my studies and against becoming a pro wrestler but in this case i decide how and where things go!

Mateusz: When was your first match and what do you remember of it?

Hakeem: End of 2011 in Israel. It was a small show later i had my first match in europe begin 2012. All started from there then.

Mateusz: Who was / is your wrestling idol?

Hakeem: There were many names from the time where i started to watch wrestling shows in the on tv in the 90’s. (Also regarding you previous question).

Mateusz: Where did the idea for your ring name „Hakeem Waqur”?

Hakeem: It’s the venerable wise one and ruler.

Mateusz: How did you get into the wrestling industry?

Hakeem: As i said bevor best thing is getting to a good wrestling school..you start from there.

Mateusz: What wrestler are you? Heel, face, tweener? What gives you the greatest pleasure from working in the ring?

Hakeem: HEEL!

Mateusz: You work for European Wrestling Association. What are your obligations toward federation?

Hakeem: Ya i work for EWA in Viena,Austria. Almost on all of their shows.

Mateusz: What is it European Wrestling Association?

Hakeem: One of the most known european promotions in europe, biggest and most professional in Austria!
EWA is currently located in Austria, Vienna and they run also their school. They do also shows in other cities.

Mateusz: What is the atmosphere like in wXw?

Hakeem: Enjoyable!

Mateusz: Who helped you the most in WXW?

Hakeem: WALTER!

Mateusz: What moment do you remember the most?

Hakeem: Many..I had good matches & good times there.

Mateusz: Do you train someone?

Hakeem: Ya I am in charge in training and the headcoach at the GWP Chop Center which belongs to GWP-German Wrestling Promotion. I also gave seminars at EWS in Erding, Munich.

Mateusz: Who is going to be your next target on WXW?

Hakeem: I don’t work currently for wXw but maybe the ShotGun-& Unifited Heavyweight Title one day!

Mateusz: Who would you like to face with the WXW roster?

Hakeem: Any challenge accepted.

Mateusz: Who do you owe cooperation with WXW?

Hakeem: wXw office, WALTER.

Mateusz: Out of all the matches you have wrestled so far, which one has been your favorite and why?

Hakeem: POW, EWA, GWP and especially the matches in the UK because in England there is mostly bigger crowd than in Europe(not always!) so there is always bigger fans reactions there.

Mateusz: Is wrestling in Israel popular? Will you tell about it.

Hakeem: People in Israel and in the middle east usually know wrestling through WWE TV programs. Not many people know or watch indy wrestling.

When i lived in Israel and before i moved to germany i couldn’t go to a wrestling school in Israel or middle east countries because there where no ones. Since few years there are some indy shows in the holy land and i hope all gets more popular in the region.

Mateusz: Have you suffered any major or minor injuries while wrestling and what were they? Ever injure anyone else?

Hakeem: No injuries until now thanks god.

Mateusz: In the locker room, you must get the chance to meet alot of other wrestlers, who was the biggest name you’ve met?

Hakeem: I usually get along with everybody. I wrestled Tatanka, Tommy Dreamer, Al Snow, Chris Masters, MVP and many others. Also met Gangrel, Kevin von Erich, John Morrison, Alberto Del Rio, Viscera and many others.

Mateusz: What is the difference between Israel and Austria wrestling?

Hakeem: People in Europe(also UK, USA etc.) know & watch much more indy shows. In Europe and in the countries i mentioned (also Canada, Mexico, Japan and others) it’s possible to train in good wrestling schools.

Mateusz: We are currently living in a difficult period. How COVID-19 is working wrestlers? What does work at look like?

Hakeem: I hope all will get back to normality end of the year and begin of the next year.

Mateusz: Do you have any hobbies besides wrestling?

Hakeem: Ya sports, politics, history etc.

Mateusz: What is the hardest thing about being a single and tag team wrestler?

Hakeem: Maybe getting used to styles of other talents but you can always have a good match with anybody! It all should be enjoyable and much more about representing your character and telling the story!

Mateusz: What did you feel when you won the POW Tag Team Championship?

Hakeem: Absolutely deserved.
